Maori Instruments

In room 5 for social studies we are learning about maori instruments and other instruments from other cultures. I know I have learnt this when I have chosen a instrument and found five facts about my instrument. These are my facts and my instrument is a Lute.


  1. In Europe lutes were very popular for a few hundred years it was most popular in 1400-1800.
  2. There are a lot of wood you can use to make a lute these are the woods.For the neck block you can use Sycamore, Mahogany, Lime Wood, Cedar of Lebanon, Yellow Cedar. For the ribs you can use RoseWood, Indian RoseWood, Kingwood, Ash, Yew, Plumwood, Cherry wood, Hornbeam, Goncalo alves, Walnut, Cocobolo, Padauk, Ebony, Plane, Sycamore, Maple, Birds eye maple and Holly.  
  3. Lutes were one of the most famous instruments in the early days, they were played in church, in courts, in towns, in streets and in theatre’s.
  4. Lutes have courses, there are 5 courses, 6 courses, 10 courses and 15 courses.
  5. Lutes are a medieval instruments.
